Idea Of East Recording was founded in 1995 by five Nova Scotia music professionals. Initially using one-inch 24-track analog tape, the studio eventually moved through ADAT systems to contemporary set ups including Pro-Tools and Nuendo along with available analog alternatives. The list of artists, groups and users who utilized Idea Of East Recording over the last ten years represents a who's who of the East Coast music and motion picture scene, including:
Sloan, the Gandharvas, Buck 65, Len, The Spinney Brothers, Jerry Granelli, The Jimmy Swift Band, The Trews, Ian Janes, Thrush Hermit, the Heavy Blinkers, Bucket Truck, Ermine, Jon Epworth and the Improvements, Jale, Alive and Well, Hope, The Dean Malenkos, Lennie Gallant, Neusiland, The Super Friends, Hip Club Groove, The Sebutones, The Inbreds, Jeff Reiley, MIR, Grand Theft Bus, John Chaison, Black Pool and countless others.
The range of styles went from indie rock and hip hop to country, celtic, punk, alternative rock, pop, bluegrass and contemporary folk.
Film and video producers using the studio included internationally-known companies such as Eco Nova, Colliedescope Digital, Emotion Pictures and the Nova Scotia Community College System.
In August of 2005, the studio space was reclaimed for condo developments. We are not sure what the future holds for Idea of East Recording, but we will maintain a website for updating its many friends, associates and clients on what it has in store for the future.
